And the sea as seen from the Canne Bianche.
Hotel Canne Bianche is a beach resort without many frills, but with the perfect location to sunbathe at the pool by the sea.
The Canne Bianche lies directly at the beach on a, to be honest, not so chic strip of land between Monopoli and Ostuni in Apulia, in Southern Italy. However, it does differ from the surrounding beach resorts in that it has installed its own kind of charm. That lies somewhere between glamour, vintage and prefab. The entrance hall looks much like one at a beach club in The Hamptons and the rooms are not particularly spectacular, but fill the need for an uncomplicated holiday at the ocean. The highlight of the property is the green lawn at the front of the building with its two interconnected pools and direct access to the sometimes rough sea. Because the sun shines nearly every day during the summer in Southern Italy and not many hotels lie directly on the water, the Canne Bianche is the perfect alternative to the many pretty “Masserias” in the country’s interior. Theoretically the guests at Canne Bianche could spend a whole week in the hotel without leaving it. The food is great, the staff very flexible and the boss, Signora Annabella, takes care of everything and anything personally – at least that was the impression we were given during our stay a couple of weeks ago.
Ideal for: a quiet week’s holiday at the beach, not too expensive with perfect excursion destinations around the corner (Polignano, Bari, Ostuni, Fasano, etc.).
Small catch: in spring there are a few bus groups staying as guests, which you shouldn’t really subject yourself to.
Spa: yes, which is in the cellar, but still very chic. Also a fitness room, steam bath and various massages & therapies that can be booked.
Prices: in high season from about 100 Euros per person per night.
