Fasano, Rio de Janeiro / Brazil

At the beginning of which the Fasano hotel is located.

The suites: roomy and very classical.

But far away from a pseudo design hotel.

The star is of course the location, with a view to the water.

Especially from the rooftop pool.

Here too, everything is classically chic.

The meeting point for all the residents: Ipanema`s beach in front of the hotel.

The complete Ipanema coastline – viewed from Leblon.
One of the most important questions, that had to be cleared up about the World Cup, was: Where does the VIP guest actually stay in Rio? The answer is quite simple: at the Fasano hotel. Where else…
Yesterday, on Thursday, the Football World Championship started in Brazil! Even though Brasilia is the capitol of the country and Sao Paolo the biggest metropole, most of the fans will be making a pilgrimage to Rio in the end. Mainly because Rio is the place, where most people want to go, when they think of Brazil. It all starts with the landscape. The surrounding hills and the statue of Cristo Redentor look as if they were artistically arranged by a star architect. And as if that wasn`t enough, around every corner is a beautiful beach. The most famous are Copacabana and Ipanema. If we`re honest: the Copacabana is not that nice, whereas there are numerous pretty houses on Ipanema that are set back from the beach and even the restaurants posses a certain quality.
At the beginning of the Rio de Janeiro Ocean drive, the Avenida Viera Souto, house number 80, stands the trendiest building in town. The Fasano hotel, which was named after its owner, Rogerio Fasano. Rogerio is descended from a family with italian origins, but grew up in Sao Paolo. Fasano operates four hotels (the one in Rio, one in Sao Paolo, one in Punta del Este and another one in Boa Vista) and also a few restaurants. All are lovely, all are trendy.
The hotel in Rio is particularly spectacular, because it is located directly on Ipanema beach (and not far from Capacabana as well…). Many of the rooms have a seaview. However, the absolute highlight of the property is the roof terrace with its pool. There are very few places like this, where you can prepare for the World Cup match so elegantly and exclusively. The modest property, which reminds us very much of Oscar Niemeyer architecture actually carries the signature of french designer Philippe Starck. Even though he has strewn lots of designer elements around, it doesn`t appear to be forced like in other designer hotels. Owner Rogerio Fasano likes to place a lot of emphasis on not being seen as a designer or boutique hotel. It`s an “owner`s hotel”, where the boss looks after everything. That would make the big difference.
During the World Cup ideal for: FIFA-employees, sponsors and their co-workers, who are not participating in a Corporate Governance Program and can therefore afford to be invited to a – slightly more expensive – room. Because the organizers of such events paid for the rooms in advance, there are no more to be had, right up to the final on july 13th. Most of the packages, where you were able to stay at the Fasano, started at around 1.200 USD per night.
Otherwise, the hotel is ideal for: Rio visitors with high expectations.
Small catch: Sometimes, the Fasano has a few stuffed-shirts staying there, who you would expect rather in Marbella, but not here.
Nice: if you don`t stay at the Fasano, you should go for a drink at the lovely bar or have a glamourous dinner at their restaurant “Al Mare”, which we can highly recommend.
Prices after the World Cup: doubles from 630 Euros per night without breakfast (hotel rates in Rio are some of the most expensive in the world).
