Paradise Inn, Key West / Florida (USA)
Every Florida tourist dreams of ending up with an arrival in Key West! We drove down and discovered not only an interesting place, but a pretty Inn, that can definitely be recommended for a romantic weekend.
First of all a basic observation: Whoever drives down the Florida Keys from the direction of Miami comes to the conclusion: this drive is quite long. This isn’t because of the many bridges that you have to cross, but rather the monotone 170 miles route that has to be driven. The bridges on the Keys might be spectacular from the outside, but viewed from the car, they’re just flat and boring streets.
However, once you’ve arrived, you are pleasantly surprised by positive discoveries. Key West has managed to retain the charm of the earlier years in large portions of the town centre. There are many small and pretty houses, bars, cafés and shops. In addition about ten lovely Bed & Breakfasts, some of which are a little more luxurious, but in our opinion a bit too expensive, but some others an absolute dream. The big advantage of Key West is: you rent a beach cruiser and then use the bicycle for everything.
____
The Paradise Inn:
One of these typical Key West Inns is Paradise Inn. The whole guesthouse is as idyllic as a Caribbean island. And despite the central location the Paradise Inn gives you the impression of being in an isolated mini resort. Because of the tasteful garden with palm trees, lotus pond and the accommodation and cottages, you get the feeling of being on a small tropical paradise. It was just the breakfast that we found to be too small and basic, which doesn’t happen very often in America. On the other hand, as is usual on the East Coast, a daily and free happy hour with wine and cheese reception in the lobby.
Ideal for:
A romantic weekend for two (children are not allowed in Paradise Inn). For those who would like to spend the day on the beach: there’s a public beach in the south of the peninsula, about ten minutes by bicycle.
