During the tourism fair, ITB we were allowed to stay overnight in the new Gorki apartments and must admit: Berlin can  finally boast a sophisticated rare jewel for stylish living!
When testing a hotel in a place like Berlin, one of the most important questions is: Where is it located? Let’s face it, Berlin is much larger than a city like Bruges, and from which quarter relevant places and localities can be reached plays a vital role.  As a result, here is our answer: The newly opened Gorki Apartments lie in a top location. To the left of the entrance door is Rosenthaler Platz, one of the  new hubs of the central Berlin Mitte district, and to the right the “Weinberg”, where Nola`s is, Berlin’s best place to have lunch. Across the road you can find fancy t-shirts and some of the best pubs, bars and clubs have established themselves in the close vicinity.
At the Gorki boarding house, you find a total of 35 variously designed apartments. They have fictive names such as Clara Ludwig or Pia Wilhelm and they all have – apart from the usual bathroom and bed – a kitchen unit too. Before we go any further: the kitchen units are all really lovely, therefore quite pretty and the tables, which are all handmade, look really awesome. Even the utensils for cooking and preparing breakfast are of the highest quality. Actually: you notice immediately just how much value they place on detail here. The Gorki also has – just like other new places too – founded partnerships with suitable labels: The cosmetic department hides itself in little linen bags and contains products by Dr. Bronner`s (you absolutely must try the body lotion!), the cushion covers are made by the local couture label Odeeh and bicycles made by the Finnish manufacturer Pelago are parked in front of the entrance at the disposal of the Gorki’s guests. Everything is pretty, everything is fine.
Even the young director fits right into the picture: Peter Ehrlich used to appear on the stages of Berlin’s and Leipzig’s theatres, after which he realised his dream of helping to run and develop a creative boarding house. Mr Ehrlich would like to have an audience who really appreciates the advantages of such an establishment and who possibly will come to view the Gorki apartments as a kind of second home. Guests are encouraged to stay longer in the apartments and in return for this, they are given a square deal.

Ideal for:

Creative visitors to Berlin, who are drawn to central Berlin’s destinations. For those who don’t want to cook for themselves, and are not satisfied with a breakfast made up of the Nespresso capsules provided by Gorki, can just pop around the corner (for example St. Oberholz). Peter Ehrlich told us, that they are working on offering breakfast baskets, but it’s going to take a while.

Big plus:

Every apartment has a small guide with tips and places that are located just around the corner.

Not suitable for:

“it”-girls, who like to be seen in a large hotel lobby. The Gorki’s lobby is pretty, but it is a small reception area.

Prices:

Apartment (21 to 51 square metres) from 115.- to 215.- euros.
