St. Oberholz Apartments, Berlin / Germany

This is Mr Oberholz. And he is sitting in Café Sankt Oberholz.

And Mr Oberholz came up with an idea for this old house that used to be a brewery.

He put a café into this house, in which many people surf the internet

By the way, the café is here in Rosenthaler Platz

In the meantime, St. Oberholz is not only below…

But also above, and can be reached via this beautiful stairway…

Right at the top, on the roof, there are still beautiful mosaics. But we don’t really want to go that far.

Mr Oberholz thought: Why not turn the house into a hotel…
9_oberholz
Of course not an ordinary hotel, but rather charming apartments…
10_oberholz11
…with a proper dining room…

..and a small kitchen…

…and of course a little bit of art…

…with a view to the hip Torstraße and Rosenthaler Platz…

…and three bedrooms for up to six guests!

This is another bedroom!

And the bedroom, when it’s getting dark.

And this is the bathroom, which really isn’t too world-shaking.
Ansgar Oberholz operates Berlin’s most important internet café: the St. Oberholz. He also has two apartments in the same house that are not only pretty, but can be rented by numerous people for a very affordable price – in what is currently the best part of town!
The history of St. Oberholz is lovely: In 2005 an ex advertising man was dreaming about owning his own coffee shop, because he himself was a passionate visitor of such establishments. He discovered an old, run down house in Rosenthaler Platz, a little north of the first “in” quarter of Berlin, around the Hackeschen Markt, had the interior renovated, couldn’t find many guests and then had the idea of offering free internet access at appropriate tables, and suddenly became an overnight success and Berlin’s best known coffee house Godfather. In the major cities, an entirely new species hat arisen: the guests who were armed with laptop, iPad and smart phone. Some journalists even wrote, the digital bohemian society is sitting in the Oberholz.
However, because we are primarily a hotel blog, we are concerned with the continuation of the story: It is also possible to stay at St. Oberholz overnight. There are two 125 square metre apartments, for up to six people, on the third and fourth floor man. We were allowed to try out the the one on the fourth floor and came to the conclusion:
Ideal for: a long weekend in Berlin for girls- or boys, regardless of what season it is. Everyone lives together, has breakfast in the café below and also has all the good and important bars practically on the doorstep! It’s also quite suitable for young families with children, because the kids have 125 square metres in which to play around in. There’s a lot they can get up to in so much space…
Attention: Rosenthaler Platz is a very busy street and fire engines and ambulances like to drive by at night. The building is also quite old, which is why the noise from the street can be heard a little.
Big plus: especially for the boys’ weekend: a projector can be provided by the Oberholz-team on request, and in addition to this there is a large flat-screen TV in the television room, which also contains comfortable chill-out sofas. The World Cup takes place in Brazil next year, so such details are really not unimportant.
Beds? They have them. Indeed there are two big double beds and a pull out spare bed in a smaller room, which can also be moved into the other room.
Deductions: for the B grade, because the ladies would certainly like to have a larger hair dryer and the same applies to the shower cubicle in this two star boardinghouse.
Prices: 220,00 euros per night for 4 people. persons 5 and 6 just pay an additional 30 euros. On top of this is the final cleaning fee of 25 euros per stay and apartment (this is waived from 7 nights). For non-mathematicians: for 6 people from Thursday to Sunday each person would pay about 50 euros per night. We consider this a good price. Of course WiFi is also free of charge and is also available in the apartments.
Plus: There are also so called co-working places in the house: these, as well as a conference room can be rented.
